Academics
Bishop Manogue is committed to preparing each of its students for higher education through a rigorous and intellectually stimulating college prep curriculum, including Honors and Advanced Placement courses, the Fine and Performing Arts, Foreign Language, Internship opportunities and a range of electives designed to help students explore and expand their own personal horizons. Bishop Manogue is equally committed to addressing the needs of students requiring special services through our Integrated Learning Center, and fostering the spiritual growth of all students through our Campus Ministry Programs.
At Bishop Manogue, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement is a shared goal of administration, faculty and students. The educational philosophy of everyone at Bishop Manogue includes the belief that what we do must make a significant difference in the lives of our students.
Our College Prep Curriculum
Courses designed to prepare students to meet the minimum subject requirements of the University of Nevada, University of California and California State University Systems are an integral part of the Bishop Manogue academic program. However, most of our students progress well beyond these minimum requirements by taking advantage of the many higher-level courses and academic opportunities offered:
- Advanced Placement (AP) Courses: AP courses are college-level classes and exams that require a high level of commitment from students. Students who pass the AP exam given at the end of the course may receive advanced placement and/or credit once enrolled in college, allowing them to move on more quickly to higher-level courses. Bishop Manogue offers AP courses in English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, United States History, United Sates Government, Psychology , Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics, Spanish, Calculus, Statistics, French, and Studio Art.
- Foreign Language: Bishop Manogue students can learn Latin, Spanish and French, with AP courses offered in Spanish and French, and Honors courses offered in Latin. The school strongly encourages students to take at least three years of a foreign language, since this is a minimum requirement for many colleges and universities.
- Fine and Performing Arts: Bishop Manogue offers comprehensive programs in music, drama and the visual arts, including Liturgical Music, Guitar, Choir, Acting, Theater Production, Graphic Design, and Sculpture.
- Internships: The Internship Program is designed to give juniors and seniors with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better an on-site experience in a chosen career area. Internships require a considerable off-campus time commitment from students, but give them the opportunity to experience a career interest firsthand. Internships are available in a variety of fields. Students should contact their academic counselor or Internship Coordinator Leslie Righetti for information.
- Electives: Students can choose from a variety of challenging electives to nurture their interests and prepare them for the future. They include Sports Medicine, Law, Bioethics, Leadership and Economics.
Please See the Course Bulletin for a full description and selection of courses and programs.
