English
The Bishop Manogue English Department focuses on developing students into effective readers, communicators, and critical thinkers. Students read, discuss, and analyze a variety of literary genres from different time periods and cultures. An emphasis is placed on helping students to improve and develop their writing skills. Students display their ability to think critically through their written and oral responses to literature. The English Department is also responsible for publishing the monthly student newspaper, the Miner Detail (moderator Laurie Crawford) and the school yearbook, the Crosier (moderator Carol Verzola).

Fine and Performing Arts
The Music Department offers many different opportunities for Bishop Manogue students to excel in the performing arts. We offer the following University of California (UC)/California State University (CSU)- and Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association(NIAA)-approved courses: beginning band, advanced band, choir, orchestra, beginning guitar, advanced guitar, music appreciation and liturgical music. Bishop Manogue music students perform at a variety of events and music festivals throughout the year, attaining high performance marks and meeting high standards of musical excellence. All music students are eligible to participate in all Washoe County School District and Nevada All-State Music festivals and competitions.
The Visual Arts Department at Bishop Manogue offers year-long classes in the traditional fine arts, including art foundations, painting, sculpture, life drawing and figure drawing. Portfolio art and AP studio art are both year-long courses designed to compile a portfolio for advanced college credit and to meet the national standards for AP Art. These courses are UC/CSU and NIAA approved. Other courses are also offered, such as meet the masters, fiber art, fabric design, bead art, cartooning, and graphic design.
Drama at Bishop Manogue provides students with an overview of theatre as an art form and a means for self-expression. Students will explore approaches to acting, pantomime and improvisation and delve into playwriting, directing, set design, theater history and play production. They will learn how to produce and participate in theater as well as how to appreciate it.

Foreign Languages
The mission of the Foreign Languages Department is to have students acquire skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in the language of their choice. Spanish, French and Latin are the languages offered.

Health and Physical Education
Physical education classes are designed to promote healthful lifestyles emphasizing a commitment to lifelong, overall fitness. students will experience a variety of activities which instill life skills such as communication, teamwork and self-confidence. Effort, participation and improvement will be stressed.

Integrated Learning Center
The mission of the Integrated Learning Center at Bishop Manogue is to assist the students in becoming successful learners through understanding of their unique learning styles. The goal for students is autonomy in learning that reflects greater self-awareness and consistent use of individualized learning strategies. Services are provided on various levels depending on the student’s individual need. Mathematics
The Mathematics Department provides a challenging and varied curriculum. Courses are taught at the AP, honors and regular levels to meet needs of students of various abilities and interests. Support classes are offered for Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. The math department also offers several elective courses. All courses emphasize the need for critical and analytical thinking. All courses combine the use of traditional techniques as well as technological tools such as the graphing calculator, Smartboard, Smartview, Geometer’s Sketchpad, TI Navigator, Minitab, and Maple 9.5. Mathematics teachers are available throughout the school day for additional tutoring.

Science
The science department offers a varied and challenging curriculum designed to meet the needs of students, no matter what their science and math abilities. Advanced Placement, honors and introductory classes are offered in biology, chemistry and physics. Introductory and Advanced Placement classes are offered in environmental science. The science department also offers elective courses in microbiology, anatomy and physiology, astronomy, geology and advanced chemistry. Bishop Manogue possesses excellent laboratory facilities plus up-to-date classroom technology. The AP chemistry students use the new science facility at the University of Nevada to conduct their laboratory experiments, which gives them a valuable college experience. Our students are also given the opportunity to participate and compete with science students outside of Bishop Manogue High School.

Social Studies
Bishop Manogue students are required to study three years of social studies, which includes World History, US History, and US Government. The social studies department implements rigorous courses which are designed to provide a college preparatory experience. An emphasis is placed on interpreting documents, criterion based writing of an expository essay and reading skills necessary for advanced education courses. Students learn, as informed and involved citizens, to apply the knowledge and concepts to real world issues. All courses emphasize skills of content literacy, information, media and technology literacy, historical analysis and interpretation as well as civic participation. Students can choose from the following social studies electives: U.S. History AP, U.S. Government AP, Economics, Psychology, and Psychology AP.

Theology and Campus Ministry
The Campus Ministry department at Bishop Manogue Catholic High School endeavors to bring the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni of Bishop Manogue. We use retreats, education, service, liturgy, prayer, community, fellowship, and worship as our primary tools in achieving this goal.
