ONLINE BOOK SALES

Starting today you will be able to purchase books for the upcoming school year at our ESCO Online Bookstore. To do so you will need your child’s course requests for next year.  Parents who did not receive or have misplaced their child’s course request may obtain a copy from Jeny Hill or Kristin Paine in the front office.  All courses that students have requested are being offered this school year. The course request in most cases should not be different than the actual class schedule. The difference between the class schedule and course request is that the class schedule provides additional details (i.e. teacher, period numbers, and classroom assignments) not required to make your online book purchases. Class schedules will be mailed home sometime after August 1, 2012, but it is appropriate to purchase books from the course requests, as minimal changes, if any, are anticipated.

When you sign in to ESCO – you will create an account. To check credit you have received for selling books back, you will need to put in the code at the bottom of your yellow receipt. (You or your child should have received this at received at book returns.) If you have misplaced your copy you can contact customer Service at ESCO (888-228-6292 or customersfirst@escobooks.com) and they can give you the information. Don’t forget that shipping is free for the first two weeks of book sales

Please note that if you don’t purchase your books through ESCO, there is no guarantee that they will be bought back by ESCO.  Also, it is the family’s responsibility to make sure that books are purchased and received prior to the start of each semester.  It is our belief that online book sales will be a great benefit to our families, but, of course, we anticipate some bumps as we switch to the new process. DENNIS UNIFORM SALES

Students will have the opportunity to try and purchase uniforms at the annual sale to be held in the Small Gym on July 18 and 19 from 10 am to 6 pm. You can also purchase uniforms online at http://www.dennisuniform.com/

CAR POOL DATABASE

We have had several inquiries regarding transportation to and from Manogue for the upcoming school year.  While Manogue cannot provide transportation for students, we would like to compile and distribute contact information for Bishop Manogue parents interested in creating or becoming part of a car pool. SUMMER SPORTS

The Dan McGwire X’s & O’s Football Camp scheduled for July 17 – 19 has been cancelled.

Beginning TOMORROW summer conditioning for the Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Reno Tennis Center on Plumas Ave. according to the following schedule:

Tuesday, July 17, 5:30pm-7:00pm

Thursday, July 19, 7:30am-9:00am

Monday, July 30, 7:30am-9:00am

Tuesday, Aug 7, 5:30pm-7:00pm

Thursday Aug 9, 7:30am-9:00am

Tryouts will be August 13-15 from 3:15-5:15 pm.  It is highly recommended that interested players spend the spring and summer months on the tennis courts practicing all aspects of their game.  If you have any questions please contact Coach Renee Hinojosa via email: hinojosa5@sbcglobal.net or cell phone 772-6125.

All students, regardless of skill level, who are interested in joining the Cross Country team are encouraged to join summer conditioning sessions according to the following schedule:

Tuesdays, 7 am, at Rancho Park by the starting area of state/regional championships

Thursdays, 7 am, at Huffaker Park on the field to the trailhead

Fridays, 7 am, at the Sparks Marina parking lot by coffee shop

Summer conditioning for the Girls Tennis Team will be Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning July 10 from 6-7:30 pm at Reno Tennis Center on Plumas Ave. All interested players are encouraged to attend. There will be no conditioning July 24 and 26, to be resumed July 31.  Please come prepared with, plenty of water, tennis shoes and apparel, racquet and jump rope. Tryouts will be August 13, 2:45 pm at Reno Tennis Center. All players, including returning players, will be required to tryout. Girls’ basketball players are encouraged to attend open gyms on Tuesdays from 5:30 pm to 7 pm.

Girls’ Soccer optional training for new and returning players will take place at 8:30 am on the following days:  July 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, 31 and August 1, 2, 7, 8, 9. Coach Mike Henry will hold informal lacrosse training/practice sessions every other Thursday at 6 pm at Bishop Manogue.  All are welcome. Remaining session dates are: July 26, and August 9.  For information or questions email jackie.allen@bishopmanogue.org.

GET A JUMP ON THOSE PARENT SERVICE HOURS

We are looking for a few parents to sort and organize used uniforms on Monday July 16 and Tuesday July 17 during office hours (8 am to 2 pm.) The Girls Tennis team will be operating the Snack Bar at the Softball World Series to be held at Bishop Manogue July 24-27. They need parent help with the following:

Snack Bar: Shifts are daily, Tues. – Fri., from 7- 11 am, 11-3 pm and 3-7 pm.

Donations of snack bar items:  cases of bottled water; cases of Gatorade; cases of soda (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Country Time Lemonade); vendor packs of candy (peanut and regular M&M’s Snickers, Skittles); vendor boxes of individual  bags of sunflower seeds, tubs of Red Vines. All items should be dropped in the office by 2:00 pm Thurs., July 19.

All volunteer time will count toward parent service hours.  You also receive service hours for donated items:  one service hour for every $25 spent.  Please submit receipts. If you are interested in helping out or donating items, please contact Pam Duxbury at pdux@metropawn.com.

HOST FAMILY OPPORTUNITIES

Bishop Manogue is seeking host families for several incoming Foreign Exchange students.  Foreign Exchange students come to study in the U.S. for one semester or one school year only.  Hosting an Exchange student is voluntary and there is no financial compensation (by federal law), but hosting an Exchange student can be a valuable cultural experience for your family.  Our Exchange students typically come from Europe (Germany) and are usually very proficient in English. They are carefully selected by our contracted agency and are eligible for the full high school experience including participating in sports.  If interested please contact our Dean of Students Patrick Bell at patrick.bell@bishopmanogue.org or 775-336-6021

SUMMER READING

Summer reading lists for students have been posted, and hopefully your children are enjoying their literary adventures.  Please remember that summer reading is MANDATORY for all students, and encourage them to pick up their books regularly throughout the summer.  Staying on top of their summer reading can really help them start the new year off right!

Student Parking Permits will be issued on Mon., August 6 at the Attendance Window: seniors, 8am to 9:30 am; juniors,  9:30am  to 11am; sophomores, 11am to 12pm; all students, 12 pm to 2pm. Students will need a driver’s license and current vehicle registration to reserve a space.

Freshman Orientation and New Student Orientation will be August 10, 8 am to 12 pm, followed by a lunch social.

School resumes August 13, with a 9:30 start time the entire first week.
