Important Dates

Catholic Schools Week begins today, Jan 27.  As part of Catholic School’s week we will be collecting toiletries—soap, toothpaste, shampoo etc.—for local people in need.  Please bring donations to the office.  Small-sized items are best!

Monday After-School Mass, today, Jan. 27

An all-Diocesan schools Mass in recognition of Catholic Schools week will be held Wed., Jan. 29 at 10:45 am. White Oxford shirts are required for students. Please join us at St. Rose of Lima for this celebration!

Blood Drive Jan. 30.

Good News

Congratulations to junior Wes Farnsworth for his outstanding performance at this year’s Rubio National Long Snapping Camp.  This camp is the nation’s largest specialist’s camp, and Wes placed second overall in a field of more than 300 junior, senior and junior college candidates!

Avery Schroeder and the boys freshman basketball team got a surprise video message from Delta Company 4-227 Camp Buehring in Kuwait, where Avery’s father is stationed. So awesome…

We’re happy to announce that the D.O.R.S. Scholarship Challenge (raise $100K n 2013 and an anonymous donor will match it) was successfully met!  Thank you to all who helped, either through direct donation or by attending the D.O.R.S. concert held here in September.

BASH 2014

B.A.S.H. is April 5, and there’s a lot to do to get ready.  If you’d like to be part of the volunteer team for our most important fundraiser of the year, please contact Julie Dennis at julie.dennis@bishopmanogue.org. Here are some ways you can help:

  • Procure or donate silent and live auction items
  • Help prior to event with ticket sales, centerpieces, decorations, and collateral
  • Help the night of the event with set up, clean up, and other duties

This year will be very special.  Not only is it the event’s 25th anniversary, we will also be honoring Mr. Jim Toner with the inaugural Jim Toner Award for Distinguished Service to Catholic Education.  Watch for your invitation in the mail soon, and be there to celebrate one of our very favorite people!

Dance Class!

Weekend dance classes will resume on Sun., Feb. 2 in the community center at 6pm. We have new instructors, Nick and Roberta, who are skilled in many areas—Ballroom, Country, Line and Round dancing to name a few. Please come meet them, and share your ideas for class. Cost will remain $7 for adults, $5 for students.

CAMPUS Ministry News

Catholic Heart Workcamp is a four-day summer service camp—work during the day, Christian fellowship in the evening—to be held here at Bishop Manogue June 8 – 14. Cost is $250, and students of all ages can get the majority of their service hours by attending.  Interested student should see Mr. Cobb soon.

The Diocese of Reno is holding their Epic Connect Youth Rally here at Bishop Manogue on Feb. 28and Mar. 1.  Sign up through your church’s youth minister, and if you don’t have one of those, please sign up with Mr. Cobb.

The Food Bank’s annual CANstruction program will be held March 26-30 at Meadowood Mall. This is a great service project for freshmen or seniors interested in creating a team and building a sculpture solely out of canned foods!  Please contact Bill Kolton with questions or to sign up:  bkolton@fbnn.org or 775-331-3663 ext. 118

Scholarship and Financial Aid

Get those applications going!  Scholarships, not all them needs-based, are available for incoming, returning, and graduating students.  Click here to see them.  Apply for tuition assistance for the 2014-15 academic year via FACTS Grant & Aid. Although 2013 tax returns are required, you can start the application now and then submit your actual tax information by Feb. 14.

Volunteer Requirements

A reminder that The Diocese of Reno has mandatory requirements for volunteering at Bishop Manogue and all other Diocesan schools.  To volunteer you are required to:

1)   Attend a Protecting God’s Children class given by the Diocese. There will be a Protecting God’s Children class held on Feb. 20, 6 pm at the Pastoral Center at 290 S Arlington Ave.  Please plan to attend if this is still on your to-do list.  To register contact Jane O’Conner at 326-9445.

2)   Fill out and return to the front office a Confidential Background Investigation form authorizing the Diocese to run a background check.

3)   Get fingerprinted. We have an arrangement with Fingerprinting Express located near Costco at 1320 E. Plumb Ln., Suite A. Cost is $10 for Diocesan employees and it takes just a few minutes.

The Diocese will let us know when you’ve completed PGC.  Please return your CBI form and fingerprints to the front office TOGETHER so your records remain together.  Thank you for cooperation, compliance, and continued support.

For Seniors

A reminder to seniors to submit your FAFSA for potential federal aid, grants or loans as soon as possible, but no later than March 2.. The website is https://fafsa.ed.gov/.

If colleges are requesting midyear transcripts and those colleges ARE on your common application, please email Miss McClintock to follow up on midyears.  If the school is NOT on common app, please fill out a transcript request form and submit to Ms. Michels, the registrar

To all who participated in onsite admissions for UNR:  You should be receiving an email to log into your My Nevada account.  On the right hand side, there is a to-do list.  It is here you will need to accept or decline or provide further documentation.

If you child completed a graduation review with Miss McClintock PLEASE be sure that you have seen it and signed it, and that it has been returned to the Counseling Office.   This is an important step in the graduation process.

Senior Formal portraits are available for purchase online at www.jeffspicer.com. Go to the senior section, click the drop down tab and click on senior portraits. From here, click on the image that says Senior Formals. On the next screen, enter the password senior2014.

For Juniors

Interested in multimedia technology? UNR is offering a Multimedia Bootcamp for a select group of northern Nevada students between their junior and senior year.  The camp will be held June 9-19 in the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center at UNR. Applicants must be nominated and the packet is due by Friday, March 28.  Please see Ms. McClintock in you’re interested in this program

If you are interested in participating in an essay contest sponsored by the University of Portland, please pick up instructions from Ms. McClintock.  Deadline for submission to Ms. McClintock is Mon., Feb. 24.

Athletic News

Spring athletes should have a sports physical and a 2013-14 Athletic Packet on file by Monday, February 24. Tryouts for spring sports will begin on Sat., Mar. 1.
