The Bishop Manogue Boys Golf team has been one of the strongest programs in Northern Nevada and the state for the past 15 years. In 2013, the team won the State Championship by a record-margin. The team finished 5-under-par with a second-round score of 350 – 15 strokes better than any other team in the tournament. In addition, the Miners two-day team total of 734 was the third best score recorded in NIAA postseason history. The team also won the NIAA All-State Academic Championship in 2013.
The Miners 2014 season picked up exactly where it left off the year before. The boys won every league tournament by an average of 30+ strokes.
The Miners went on to win the Division I Northern Regional Tournament by 74 strokes, the third straight Regional title for the Miners, earning them another trip to the Division I Nevada State Championships. Three Miners placed in the top 6: Nick Turner (1st place), Harrison Holetz (4th place), Jens Verhey (5th place).
The Miners took 4th place in the State competition at Parumph’s Mountain Falls Golf Club, with individual honors going to Nick Turner for shooting the low round of the tournament 68 on the first day and finishing in 6th place overall.
Prior to joining Division I, the Boys Golf team racked up five league championships in the 3A and 4A leagues. While competing in the 3A division, the Boys Golf team won two State Championships.
Several of Bishop Manogue’s golfers have strong prospects to play in college, with one student most recently signing his National Letter of Intent to play at the University of Notre Dame.
