The Aly Christiansen Memorial Scholarship Fund

Awarded to Emma Taylor

The Aly Christiansen Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by contributions from friends and family in memory of Aly Christiansen, a 2001 graduate of Bishop Manogue Catholic High School. Aly was known for her love of family, friends, and Bishop Manogue. She will always be remembered for her contagious laugh, wonderful smile, and everlasting spirit. In recognition of her love of Bishop Manogue High School and UNLV, where she attended, this scholarship has been established in her honor.

The Jan Santos Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to Eric Sedlak

The Jan Santos Memorial Scholarship was created by her son and daughter-in-law, Herb and Kimberly Santos, Jr., in loving memory of Jan Santos. Jan made sure that when her sons were growing up, their friends always had a second home at her house. She regularly opened her home and her kitchen to her sons’ schoolmates, most of whom were Bishop Manogue students. Herb and Kimberly decided that a scholarship in her name, used to help defray the first year costs of room and board while attending college, would reflect her giving and loving nature.

Carl W. Andersen Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to Emma Taylor and Mathew Salas

Carl W. Andersen was born in Elko, Nevada on October 30th, 1940. He attended school in Elko and at the University of Utah. In 1983, he and his partner started Peavine Construction, Inc. where he worked for more than 40 years. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time at his home in the Ruby Mountains near Jiggs. Although he was not an athlete himself, he enjoyed watching basketball and football and coached his daughters’ youth softball teams. Carl was a big supporter of youth activities and was always pleased to hear of a local young person’s success story.

The Louis Capurro and Genevieve Capurro Family Foundation Scholarship

Awarded to Andrew Mortellaro

In the early years of their marriage, Louis Capurro Sr. and his wife Bella began their ranching career in the meadows at the base of Rattle Snake Mountain in Washoe County Nevada. Their only son, Louis Capurro Jr., was an excellent student who worked long hours on the ranch while attending school.  In retirement, Genevieve and Louie established the Louis Capurro and Genevieve Capurro Family Foundation. Their children and spouses were the Foundation’s first Board of Directors. The current Capurro Family Foundation’s Board is made up of Louie and Genevieve’s eight grandchildren.  In keeping with their grandparent’s wishes the Board strives to provide opportunities for education and personal growth for the betterment of the community.

Tim Walsh Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to Alyssa Rice

Tim Walsh was born in Reno, Nevada on September 24, 2001, and attended Bishop Manogue Catholic High School from August 2015 to June 2019. In middle school, Tim was very shy and dependent on his friends. He wasn’t sure who he was or what made him happy. Through his years at Manogue Tim learned to take opportunities when they came to him, and as a result, he created an amazing group of friends, got involved in drama and participated in the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, and was the manager of Miner TV his senior year. During Tim’s time at Manogue, he grew from a shy boy to a confident young man. He made people laugh, he made people happy, and he wasn’t afraid to voice his opinions. He gained the self-confidence he needed to become an actor, speaker, and leader, and he was happy. This scholarship is our way of honoring Tim and the person he became while at Manogue.

Michael "Bub" Yenick Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to Xavier Allen, Beatrice Maloney, and Mathew Salas

Michael “Bub” Yenick was a gifted athlete who led Bishop Manogue High School athletic teams to win Nevada State Championships in Football and Basketball in 1999-2000. Bub had a natural athletic ability for all sports in which he devoted many long, compassionate, and dedicated hours of practice. He was a leader off the field and extremely devoted to his faith and spirituality. During his time at Bishop Manogue he was very involved in school spirituality and became a Eucharistic Minister. As a team captain and popular guy, Bub would constantly reach out to fellow classmates who didn’t socially quite fit in. His cool demeanor and simplistic offers to have others join him at lunch, pick up the ball, or hang out in the hall would be small acts of kindness Bub constantly gave out to everyone and anyone. He took those early life lessons and values and practiced what was preached to him. He wasn’t doing it for gratitude or attention, he was just being Bub.

Bruno P. Menicucci Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to Brian Wiebe

This scholarship honors the memory of Bruno P. Menicucci, former teacher and coach at Bishop Manogue Catholic High School.  Bruno Menicucci was an educator, coach, public servant and devout Catholic.  He lived his life committed to his faith, family, and community.  He believed in the power of knowledge and valued his educational opportunities.  This scholarship will be awarded to a student who can demonstrate those same values of education, faith, family, and community.

The Dunlap Family Scholarship

Awarded to Nico Hofheins and Mathew Salas

The Dunlap Family Scholarship.  This scholarship has been established by Merritt and Julie Dunlap, alumni parents of Bishop Manogue.  The Dunlap’s were very involved in the Lacrosse program, and their support helped establish and stabilize this club at the school. After Ryan’s graduation in 2014, the Dunlap’s chose to continue their support of the school by presenting this scholarship to a graduating senior.
