BMCHS VIRTUAL LEARNING / COVID-19 FAQ
ARE MASKS REQUIRED?
In accordance with the Diocese of Reno and the Governor’s Directive 048, cloth masks/face coverings are required for all entering the Bishop Manogue campus regardless of vaccination status.
ARE DAILY HEALTH CHECKS REQUIRED?
Daily healthy checks will NOT be required for students this year. As a reminder, please DO NOT send your student to school if they are feeling even slightly ill or exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms.
HOW LONG IS VIRTUAL LEARNING AVAILABLE
Due to the recent and very unexpected changes resulting from the Governor’s Directive 048, we will honor parents who are requesting a virtual educational option from now until September 7, 2021.
WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH ATHLETICS AND OTHER SCHOOL EVENTS AND CONTESTS?
There are many provisions in Directive 048 that are dependent upon vaccination status, particularly as it relates to activities and athletics.
While Bishop Manogue does not require students to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination status, we will assume students who do not offer evidence of full vaccination are not vaccinated. Therefore, per the Governor’s Directive, athletes and students in activities/contests are required to be tested weekly for COVID-19. Please see the details outlined below.
- To provide proof of vaccination and avoid the mandated testing, please send a copy of your vaccination card or WebIZ record to Sarah Haeberlin-Cope: email@example.com.
Immunization records can be found in the Nevada immunization registry, Nevada WebIZ. To locate and print the record, visit ImmunizeNevada.org. If you choose not to provide proof of vaccination, we will assume you require testing and you will be tested each week.
- At this time, the Directive requires any student, coach, volunteer, or faculty member who is unvaccinated and who is traveling outside of the county for any school-sponsored activity (band, choir, debate, leadership) or non-close contact sports (volleyball, soccer, golf, tennis, cross country, cheer) must be tested for COVID-19 before the travel date. Individuals must acquire the test within a week of the event/contest and produce a negative COVID-19 test result 48 hours before the event/contest date to participate.
- Football ONLY: Per the Directive, unvaccinated football players must be tested weekly, regardless of game travel out of the county. Beginning with the week of August 16, 2021, all unvaccinated football players will be tested weekly at the school. Please watch for separate details from the athletic department for clearance and permission forms.
- COVID-19 Testing: Bishop Manogue has secured onsite testing at no-cost for students who have planned out-of-county travel for competitions or activities. Tests will be administered within the week of departure by a trained administrator (these are no touch tests; only the individual testing touches them); the school will receive results within 24-48 hours. Your student’s coach or club moderator will notify students of the testing parameters and deadlines before the out-of-county contest or event.
If you do not wish to obtain a test using our onsite testing capabilities, you are welcome to acquire a test independently. Only third-party tests will be permitted. Bishop Manogue cannot accept the results from a generic at-home test. We do accept the BinaxNow test that is performed on Facetime with a medical professional and has medically certified certificates for results. Walgreens Pharmacy, CVS Pharmacy, and Advanced Medical Arts (775-300-9220) have been recommended as quick and easy options for testing. All test results should be sent to Sarah Smith: Sarah.Smith@BishopManogue.org.
